President Barack Obama; Bereavement for Tsunami Victims in Mentawai West Sumatra Indonesia

President Barack Obama, Tuesday (26/10) local time, expressed his sorrow for the deaths of several people in the tsunami in the Mentawai Islands and pledged, the United States will help.

"(First Lady) Michelle (Obama) and I am very saddened by the loss of life, injury, and damage caused by the earthquake and tsunami in West Sumatra," said Obama. "At the same time, I was amazed by the remarkable resilience of the Indonesian people and government commitment to quickly help the victims," he said. He added, "As a friend of Indonesia, the United States is always ready to help in any way."

At least 112 people were killed, and hundreds more are still missing Wednesday after the tsunami struck 10 villages in the Mentawai Islands regency, West Sumatra, on Monday night.
